November, 2009 Dear Parents/ Guardians: Reflecting on my first semester as Principal of North Monterey County High School, I have noted many great academic accomplishments, trials, and areas of needed improvement. First of all, NMCHS has a staff that works very hard to assist all students reach academic mastery. Our teachers care about our students and give the time and commitment needed to assist each of these young people reach their future dreams whether it be going into the work force or to the college they’ve worked so hard to enter. Secondly, this semester has brought into light the continued need to monitor student safety. Please note that when we have an emergency evacuation students will be taken to a safe place away from any known risk. We also experienced a lock- down. Students were kept in class, law enforcement was brought in and protocol was followed to ensure student and staff safety. With any type of emergency, parents are notified as soon as administration under the direction of law enforcement is given the clearance to release accurate information. And finally, NMCHS continues to work on staff development, character education, co- and extracurricular activities and improved student performance as evaluated by the California State Standards Test given in the Spring of each year, I appreciate the support our community and District Office has provided. Please note, your student is very important! Enjoy the holiday season and we will begin our Spring semester on January 11, 2010. Sincerely, Terri Gill
